My Sharpie marker dried out during my UGTL4 live art set and I had to resort to the black watercolor to do my outlining. Quite frankly, I thought it looked horrible. It just wasn’t black enough, so I decided to take a crack at sumi ink. I had been wanting to use it since Okami came out, the way it is used in the design of this game is gorgeous. So i picked up a small green bottle of “ready made” sumi ink at blick and a cheapo brush (though after this first experience, would prefer a better one) and went home and painted a blanka! I really enjoyed it and I’m eager to do the next one soon.

Wild Thing Inspired Buttons
They look awesome!! I was strangly introduced to a button maker here in LA while I was in the middle of designing some Wild Things to coincide with the release of the film. Yknow, I wanted to be part of the uprawr and as soon as I knew I had access to a button maker I sent in my designs and placed an order. These buttons not only look great but they’re my first “real” product in a soon to be long line of designs. They sold out completely in 3 days and I’m working on replenishing my stock and even getting them into online shops. Send me an email if you are interested in a set.
My second live art event went really well. Not only did I have another chance to draw with my buddy Simon, but we picked up a couple other artists to join in the fun! Jessica G is a young manga artist and she can really deliver some solid work. Naomi a production artist in the gaming industry also showed off some wonderful work. We had alot of great feedback/sales and are glad to be keeping the live art portion of the tournament kicking.

This time around, I started to really define my style of cutsey chibi style characters and got the watercolors flowing even faster than before. But by the end of the night my sharpies were running dry and I started painting my outlines. Which has led me onto trying sumi ink for that. I’m always excited to develop something with each painting and the next ones will be even better. Thanks for everyone who came out!
Come see me and my buddy Simon draw, paint, and ink all night long! We’ll be featuring a guest artist or too as well. Paintings will be for sale so bring your cash if you want an original piece of UGTL history!
So my newest acrylic series of Chibi Super Heroes has been a pretty big hit. At least with me and Panda (pictured). This series came out of a drawing in my sketch book that was simply Batman saying “My Parent’s are Dead” that a friend of mine inspired.
I thought it was amazing. So it motivated me to do a series. People are asking how much their going for…but for now, I’m just going to complete the series. I’ll probably do about 15 or 20 of them, get them scanned, make prints and start selling. Stay Tuned!
I’m already excited about my next series.
UGTL3 was my first live art gig! I had been going to quite a few opening nights at some LA galleries and a few of them featured live artists. Kinda wishing I could do the same I figured, dude….UGTL! So I asked BMarq if he was cool with that and I enlisted my buddy Simon Estrada to help out, cuz he loves games and his style totally feeds off it. The live art was a success and will happen again at UGTL4. I am also in charge of who draws with us so if you know of anyone interested in showing the kids some skills let me know!
I have been a huge fan of Bob’s Big Boy my entire life and he has become an icon for me. I still have my Big Boy “piggy bank” from when I was a kid. So when I found a blank canvas in my garage I knew exactly what to paint. My only regret, was using cheapo paints. You can really see here how important paint quality is for a piece. This is the largest painting I had ever done and I’m looking forward to the next one, with finer acrylics.
